The St. James Theatre is located at 246 W. 44th St. Broadway, New York City, New York. It was built by Abraham L. Erlanger, theatrical producer and a founding member of the Theatrical Syndicate, on the site of the original Sardi's restaurant. 

It opened in 1927 as The Erlanger. Upon Erlanger's death in 1930, control of the venue was taken over by the Astor family, who owned the land on which the theatre stood. The Astors renamed it the St. James Theatre.

The St. James Theatre is located at 246 W. 44th St. Broadway, New York City, New York. It was built by Abraham L. Erlanger, theatrical producer and a founding member of the Theatrical Syndicate, on the site of the original Sardi's restaurant. 

It opened in 1927 as The Erlanger. Upon Erlanger's death in 1930, control of the venue was taken over by the Astor family, who owned the land on which the theatre stood. The Astors renamed it the St. James Theatre.

The theatre was purchased by the Shuberts in the late 1930s. They were forced to sell it to the William L. McKnight in 1957 following the loss of an antitrust case. McKnight renovated the St. James and reopened it in 1958. In 1970, McKnight then transferred the theatre to his daughter Virginia and her husband James H. Binger, who had formed the Jujamcyn Amusement Corporation.

How to Get There

Subway:
Take the N,Q,R,W or 1,2,3,9 to 42nd Street, walk North on Broadway to 44th Street and walk West on 44th Street to the theatre. Take the A,C,E to 42nd Street, walk North on Eighth Avenue to 44th Street and walk East on 44th Street to the theatre.

Parking
Most of the theatres are on the right side streets between 8th Avenue and Broadway from 44th to 53rd Streets. There are parking garages along the way. Please be aware, directions are subject to change due to detours, road/track work, etc.

Orchestra Location: There are no steps to the designated wheelchair seating location on the Orchestra Level.

Mezzanine Location: Located on the 2nd level: up 29 steps. There is an additional 49 steps up to the remainder of the Mezzanine. Entrance to Mezzanine is behind row E.

Balcony Location: Located on the 3rd level: up 77 steps from the Orchestra. Please Note: On the Mezzanine or Balcony level, there are approximately 2 steps up/down per row.

Toilet/Restroom

A wheelchair accessible restroom (unisex) is located on the main level. Additional restrooms are located on the upper and lower levels. Water fountains are located in the lower lounge and mezzanine. Pay phones are located in the lower lounge and rear mezzanine
