Information

You leave London heading west for Windsor. Windsor Castle has been the home of the Royal family for 900 years. You will visit the State Apartments, still used for royal and state occasions.

The magnificent State Apartments are furnished with some of the finest works of art from the Royal Collection, including paintings by Rembrandt, Rubens, Canaletto, Gainsborough and the famous triple portrait of Charles I by Sir Anthony Van Dyck.

In 1992 fire destroyed or damaged more than 100 rooms at the Castle. By good fortune the rooms worst affected were empty at the time, and as a result, few of the Castle's artistic treasures were destroyed.

The highly acclaimed restoration work, completed in 1997, is a testament to the extraordinary skills of some of the finest craftsmen in Europe.

We next see St George's Chapel, one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in England and the spiritual home of the Order of the Garter, the senior order of British Chivalry established in 1348 by Edward III. Within the chapel are the tombs of ten sovereigns, including Henry VIII and his third wife Jane Seymour, and Charles I.

St George's Chapel is also the site for many royal burials, and the home of our senior order of the chivalry, the Order of the Garter.

After lunch we head off to our 2nd World Heritage site of mystical STONEHENGE. Stonehenge is 500 years older than the Pyramids in Eygpt, and is one of the world's finest prehistoric structures. Here you will be able to walk round the stones and hear the stories of their beginning.

We now head for the Roman city of BATH. This is our 1st World Heritage site for the day. Here we visit the Roman Baths. Every day 1/4 million gallons of water at a constant temperature of 120 degrees burst through the limestone rock. You will visit the springs tamed by the Romans in about 65AD, when they built the Baths.

We will also see the Georigan architecture for which Bath is world famous. We also see the Royal Crescent, the Circus and the Assembly Rooms. You will have some free time to explore on your own.
